In Brief

This minimalist utility room with mistral worktops and dark painted slab doors is compact but has dramatic impact. The utility room is carefully designed to function well in the small space.

In Detail

A stunning bespoke utility room in a rich shade of dark blue. The handleless cabinetry adds to the minimalist utility room design, with the ceramic Belfast sink bringing a clean and sleek feel.

The utility room brief

Our clients wanted a new utility room design that accommodated the location of their major new heating system. The new space had to give our clients a functional laundry and wash space as well as some serious storage.

Retrofit measures

A major part of our client’s home renovation was undertaking a deep retrofit with HEM architects. They wanted to future proof their home and make their property more sustainable. As part of the drive to create a more energy-efficient home, they installed an air-source heat pump and underfloor heating. The new boiler and heating system required a dedicated space within the utility room.

Storage

The floor to ceiling cabinets offer a huge amount of storage, whilst still leaving space for the heating system. With doors in marine blue, the cabinetry echoes the colours of the kitchen alongside. See the matching kitchen we designed here.

Sustainable cabinetry

All the cabinets are made from our special eco board, which is super sustainable. The board is produced from 100% recycled timber. No tree was felled in the production of these cabinets, which makes them a great sustainable choice for the utility room.

Worktop and sink

Our clients were keen to re-use their beautiful ceramic Belfast sink so we incorporated this into the new design. They chose an acrylic stone surface, Mistral, for their worktop, to match the one in the kitchen.

The result

The result is a stunning utility room, fully functional and offering lots of storage.

Our client says

I’m confident in the quality of what we have invested in. I’m confident that it will last, and will continue to look beautiful and perform well for years (decades!) to come. I’m confident that in working with Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens we made a sustainable choice.”
