A reclaimed wooden desk is a multi-functional children’s homework space in the kitchen, perfect for all the family. Nestled between two full-height storage cupboards, this living space not only provides ample storage for a growing family, but an area for the children to complete their school work.
Our clients had two growing children and wanted somewhere for them to sit and have a dedicated homework space. As a result we designed a reclaimed timber desk in the kitchen diner to fit between two bespoke units. Due to lockdown, the clients children had spent most of the year in the dining room completing their school work. They needed space and had limited storage for the children’s belongings.
By creating a homework area, we gave the family back their dining area, and the units on either side are valuable storage space. Additionally, the clients are now able to help their children with their work whilst cooking at the same time. This is a hugely important benefit of this multi-functional space.
The cabinets on each side of the workspace are valuable storage spaces for a host of equipment.
We also designed and installed a kitchen for our clients at the same time, check it out in our gallery.
Reclaimed timber is a great sustainable option for use in your living spaces. Strong and durable, the reclaimed hardwood we have used in the children’s homework space has already stood the test of time in its previous lives. The reclaimed timber used in this project had a previous life as school science lab benches. By sanding back the cosmetic wear and tear we revealed the fantastic wood grain below.
The result is beautiful. We hope that this characterful reclaimed wooden desk will provide the family with a useful workspace for many years to come.
