Sustainable Kitchens

In Detail

This beautiful dark grey painted shaker kitchen contrasts well with the oak accents of the open shelving and breakfast bar.

The brief

Our clients wanted a full new kitchen in their extended kitchen space for their growing family. Their small kitchen extension had given them a space of 3.5 metres by 3 metres to play with. They wanted a classic shaker style kitchen with a contemporary feel to it. It was crucial that the kitchen worked well in the space, so that food prep and cooking was a smooth process, not cumbersome.

Design look and feel

To keep the design simple and the kitchen tidy, our clients were keen to have the majority of storage tucked away behind doors. However, they liked the idea of having some smaller open shelves to display some of their lovely ceramics. We created a few sets of small chunk oak shelves across the kitchen design.

The kitchen boasts a number of integrated appliances: oven, warming drawer, induction hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. All neatly housed within the u-shaped kitchen – functioning really well. While the kitchen is relatively small, the compact design is practical and contains all key kitchen elements within easy reach. Our client also opted for a solid surface worktop, Encore, which comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s guarantee. Hard-wearing, these worktops can be easily maintained, which extends their life.

Breakfast bar

A little solid oak breakfast bar completes the kitchen and allows clients to perch in the kitchen for eating, working or just being sociable.

The result is a lovely fresh shaker kitchen, which functions really well in the compact space as well as looking good.
