In Detail

This is one of our gorgeous blue handleless kitchens in Sheffield. Light and airy, the pale cabinetry is lifted by the warm tones of the bamboo worktop and shelving.

The brief

Our clients came to us with a vision of a stunning, light kitchen that functioned better for them. Their old kitchen failed to maximise storage in the compact space. It was crucial that the new design worked harder. They love handleless kitchens, so that was a clear win!

The washing machine was previously located elsewhere in the house and our clients were keen to bring it into the kitchen. As a result, we included it in the new design concealed behind a blue handleless door at the end of the sink run.

Reusing existing appliances

Our clients were keen to keep some of their existing appliances, which is something we are always happy to do. There is nothing sustainable about getting rid of a perfectly working appliance, so we incorporated their appliances into the new kitchen design.

Compact kitchen design

We did not change the layout of the kitchen drastically, but the small changes we did make have hugely improved the functionality of the space. The previous kitchen had no food preparation area due to the hobs poor position. By moving the hob and oven across slightly and relocating the fridge to the opposite side of the room, our clients now have much more worktop space. We boxed the microwave into a wall cabinet to regain valuable worktop space and fitted a floor to ceiling larder cabinet complete with tall spice racks.

In addition, the open shelves in bamboo add further storage for our clients’ items that are too pretty to be hidden behind a cabinet door! Open shelving is a great way to display your beautiful belongings without compromising on space.

Sustainable bamboo

The bamboo worktop and shelving is a sustainable choice. Bamboo is a fast-growing, self-propagating crop that replenishes itself within three years. Using bamboo is not only sustainable, but it adds warm tones to the kitchen. The edging of the bamboo is also a nice design detail, showing off the many layers it is constructed from. Illuminating the space

The key to the design brief was to bring more light into the space. We added spotlights to the ceiling and LED strips to the underside of cabinetry to create an airy feel. Under-cabinet lights are useful in any kitchen, lifting the space and increasing functionality. Tucked away, these unobtrusive lights are perfect for illuminating those worktop spaces that are darkened by overhead cabinets, or by you, prepping food. They allow our clients to make the most of their valuable worktop space.

Tiled splashback

Metro tiles are a timeless classic. Layed in a brickwork pattern they create the illusion of a more industrial space, adding to the contemporary feel of the kitchen. The reflective finish of the tiles bounce light into the room producing the light and airy space our clients envisioned. The result

The result is a sleek and stunning, blue handleless Sheffield kitchen. The bamboo worktops and pale blue cabinetry work together harmoniously to create a warm and calming space. Most importantly, this compact kitchen is finally functional for our clients and they couldn’t be more delighted.

Our clients say

“We approached Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens for the renovation of our kitchen after seeing their previous work as well as wanting to work with a local company and local tradespeople. The work took a little longer than expected to finish however, the finished product is beyond amazing.

There were a few teething issues with some elements of the kitchen but these were out of the control of Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens and they made sure that any issues were dealt with professionally and promptly.

Alex was our fitter and it was a pleasure having him around. His work is excellent and he is a credit to the company. The tradespeople that Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens work with were all also excellent and the work they did in getting our kitchen revamped was fantastic. We couldn’t be happier and would gladly recommend Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens to people in the future.”
