We designed and installed this bespoke storage wall of cupboards, created in stunning birch-faced plywood. The bank of bespoke storage cupboards conceal a door to the utility room and backdoor space, as well as doubling as a fabulous feature wall in their new home extension.
Our clients wanted a partition to separate the “front of house” living area with the utility room and WC. As a result, we designed this feature timber wall as the partition, incorporating a bank of storage cupboards. The bespoke cupboards mask a hidden door, which is access to the utility space behind and the back door. Acting as a breaker between the two zones, this bespoke cupboard wall is hugely functional. It provides a considerable amount of concealed custom storage, which is priceless in any kitchen.
Visually inspired by a Herzog and De Meuron-designed building in San Francisco, our clients wanted this as a reference point. The building uses bespoke circular textured copper cladding. Our clients wanted to incorporate this feel into their new living space.
We took this as the starting point for their fabulous feature wall. The circles are echoed throughout the kitchen with the door cut out handles of the kitchen cabinets.
The material used throughout the storage wall is birch-ply. Birch faced plywood is engineered wood. This means it is man-made, produced from layers of wood, glued together to create a strong surface. Due to the cross-laminated sheets it’s made of, plywood is a very stable material and doesn’t tend to move or swell – perfect for building cabinetry that will stand the test of time!
The result is stunning and unique. The storage wall is both beautiful and functional, providing our clients with bags of new storage. The circular cutouts in both the kitchen and the bespoke storage wall unite the two zones, creating a space that our clients will enjoy for years to come.
