Last year we were excited about sourcing some fantastic timber locally – beautiful spalted beech.

The spalting is essentially a mild form of rot, working its way through the grain, but it doesn’t affect the durability of the wood (think blue veins in Stilton!).

After almost 12 months of seasoning in Sheffield, the lovely timber is ready to be used. If we had started working with it before it had fully dried out, it would be prone to warping and distortions, twisting the finished item.

Luke has been busy this week preparing it, to create a stunning cabinet for a client.
