Sheffield’s Chef on a Bike, Dave Foster, approached Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens earlier this year to design an eco-trailer to extend his deliveries of artisan bread to even more customers around the north of Sheffield.
He already cycles round Wentworth, Stocksbridge, Penistone, Bradfield and Worsbrough, peddling his wares at markets and events, and had been wanting a custom built trailer for a while, for sustainability reasons.
We had already designed and fitted kitchens for him, both for work and for home, and we were delighted to develop a bespoke trailer to transport his bread and act as a showpiece for his business.
The trailer needed to be sturdy, fully collapsible and big enough to hold stocks of his artisan breads. We came up with a design, then custom built it using a combination of birch-faced ply and reclaimed iroko – made from old school lab benches – with Dave’s logos laser-etched on the side.
The Chef on a Bike, and his new trailer, will be out and about at a number of events in the Sheffield area and will be showcasing the trailer as the crowds gather for the Tour de France.
